Colic: Learning about the symptoms, preventing it, and treating it.

After the field trip, we went to Bower's Mansion for a picnic lunch
4-H isn't just learning about horses, it's about making life-long "horsey" friends !
And, of course, we had to stop at the Chocolate Nugget Candy Factory on the way home!

We had our first field trip of year at Comstock Large Animal Hospital in Pleasant Valley on Saturday, May 26, 2007. Leslie, licenced veterinarian technician, gave us a wonderful tour of the new facility, just opened in March, along with the old building, now converted into the new Surgery Center. We learned about colic, how to prevent it, how to recognize the symptoms, how to treat it, and when to call the vet. Dakota, a dun mustang gelding and resident blood donor horse, allowed us to listen to his belly for gut sounds. It was a very educational day for all of us!
A HUGE Thank you to Leslie, who took her time and really did a great job in giving the tour and answering all our questions. We really appreciate it!! Thank you to Comstock Large Animal Hospital for allowing us to visit! (For more information about CLAH, visit their web site at www.comstockequine.com)
