~ 4-H GENERAL RULES & REGULATIONS ~
  1. All members must comply with the Rules & Regulations in the Nevada State 4-H Horse
    Show Rules Book and the Nevada State Fair Competition Guide.  (Ask your leader
    for a copy of these guides.)
  2. All 4-Hers must have enrollment cards in to University Nevada Cooperative Extension
    (UNCE)' office on or before March 1 of the project year.
  3. Members will be responsible for securing their own horse projects.  Assistance may be
    secured from parents, leaders, extension personnel, etc.
  4. A project verification record must reach the (UNCE) no later than June 1 of the project
    year.  Project verification is required before a member is permitted to show their horse(s).
  5. Members are required to prepare and submit a 4-H record book at the end of the 4-H
    project year.
  6. 4-H members are required to enter their respective Showmanship class at the county
    Qualifying Show and/or the Nevada State Fair.
  7. Members are required to attend 50% of club meetings, clinics, shows, or other planned
    project activities (activities determined by the club leader), to be eligible to exhibit at the
    State Fair or qualifying show.  This requirement may be waived at the discretion of the
    leader if extenuating circumstances arise, warranting a modification of this requirement.
  8. Washoe County 4-H Horse Members are required to pass Horse Level I, both written and
    riding, prior to entering the County Qualifying Show or the Nevada State Fair.
  9. I will read, understand, and follow these rules without exception, and the rules of all horse
    shows in which I participate.
  1. I believe that participation in the Washoe County 4-H Horse Program should demonstrate my own knowledge,
    ability, and skill as a raiser and exhibitor of horses.
  2. I will do my own work to the fullest extent I am capable and otherwise will only accept limited support from
    others.
  3. I will not use abusive, fraudulent, illegal, deceptive, or questionable practices in the feeding, grooming, and
    showing of my horse(s), nor will I allow my parents, my leaders, or any other individual to employ such
    practices with my horse(s).
  4. I will read, understand, and follow the rules without exception, of all horse shows in which I am a participant,
    and ask that my parents and the leader of my project to do the same.
  5. I wish for my horse project to be an example of how to accept what life has to offer, both good and bad, and
    how to live with the outcome.
  6. I realize that I am responsible for:
    The proper care and safe, humane treatment of my animals,
    The presentation of a high quality and safe project, and
    Demonstrating strong moral character as an example to others by upholding the 4H Code of  Conduct.

~ General Safety Rules ~
  1. Helmets are required to be worn by all 4-H youth, age 19 and younger, while near or on any horse.
  2. Proper attire is required at all 4-H sponsored functions and activities when mounted: long jeans (no shorts),
    boots and helmet.
  3. Riding bareback is prohibited at all 4-H sponsored functions and activities.
  4. Riding double is prohibited at all 4-H sponsored functions and activities.
  5. Riding on asphalt or pavement is prohibited at all 4-H sponsored functions and activities.
  6. Trotting/jogging, loping/cantering and galloping outside of arenas is prohibited at all 4-H sponsored functions
    and activities.
  7. Feet are to remain in stirrups at all times while mounted.
  8. Horses who kick (or are liable to) must wear a red ribbon on their tails at all 4-H sponsored functions and
    activities.  Members are responsible to keep a safe distance from these horses.
  9. Parents, leaders or other adults are prohibited to mount their child's horse at all 4-H sponsored functions or
    activities.
Should any 4-H Member wish to seek a variance to the above rules and
regulations, she/he must do so by written request to the Washoe County Horse
Leaders' Council.  Please sign and return to Washoe County Cooperative Extension,
